Your Bessie Page
Bessie Blog Page Design Assignment
Make a new blog page and call it “Bessie”, then do these items:
1. Find a picture of Bessie that you haven’t seen yet and add it to your page.
2. Answer the following questions and design an informative, hypertext blog that not only answers the questions, but provides useful links to other websites, pictures, audio clips and video (if you can find it).
- How did elderly owners of large plantations feel about the “New South”?
- How did young Whites in the South deal with the Great Depression?
- How did young Blacks in the South feel about it?
- What does Edward Albee do in his play that separates Whites and Blacks?
3. Put a chart on the blog page that lists the characters from the play in two categories:
|
Liberals Focus on Future, Progress, Movement, Action More words that describe Conservatives: 1. 2. 3. |
Conservatives Focus on Past, Inactivity, Status Quo More words that describe Liberals: 1. 2. 3. |
|

4. When all is said and done, the conservative characters remain unscathed by the tragedy of Bessie Smith’s death. What is Albee saying about these characters as well as the liberal ones, and if the characters represent the times, what is he saying about the time period in which these people lived?
Write a few paragraphs on your blog that provide insight to your understanding of these questions and why you think the play was written.
